Former DAS official to be questioned over murder of Jaime Garzon

Colombia’s Prosecutor General’s Office announced it will interrogate former deputy director the country’s intelligence agency DAS, Jose Miguel Narvaez, over the murder of comedian and journalist Jaime Garzon in 1999.

The disgraced security official, also implicated in the growing scandal of the intelligence agency wiretapping government critics, was linked to the murder by former paramilitary chiefs ‘Don Berna’ and ‘El Iguano’. Both demobilized paramilitaries testified it was Narvaez who ordered paramilitary organization AUC to murder the popular television personality.

According to prosecutor-in-charge Fernando Pareja Reinemer, the PG’s Office is trying to establish who was behind the murder case that shocked Colombia and has not yet been solved.
