Former congressman sentenced to 7 years in jail for parapolitics

Former congressman Dixon Ferney Tapasco was sentenced on Wednesday to seven years in jail after being found guilty of having links to a paramilitary group in the central Colombian department of Caldas.

Ferney will also have to pay a fine of approximately $1.6 million, El Tiempo reported.

Meanwhile former paramilitary Ivan Roberto Duque Gaviria, alias “Ernesto Baez” was excluded from the benefits of the Justice and Peace process for having lied in his testimony before court.
