Former Colombian consul arrested with 6 kilos of cocaine

Chief of police Rodolfo Palomino said Marco Antonio Caicedo Avendaño, former diplomat and former member of Medellín’s city council was arrested on Wednesday with the drugs stashed in hidden compartments in his hand luggage.The 51-year old Caecido was flying from Medellín and was planning to fly to Barcelona. He tried passing customs as a diplomat, but was investigated by police because of his nervous behaviour.Both the former diplomat and his drugs are held in custody.Statistics from the police say 10 foreigners and 80 Colombians have been arrested on charges of drug trafficking in 2008, despite intensive advertising campaigns that warns about the danger of transporting drugs by humans.
