Former Bolivar governor arrested for alleged AUC ties

Officials of Colombia’s General Prosecutor’s Office Wednesday arrested the former
governor of Bolivar for his alleged ties to paramilitary
organization AUC.

According to investigations of an anti-terrorism prosecutor, former governor Libardo Simancas had ties to a local organization of the AUC called ‘Bloque Heroes de los Montes de Maria’ that allegedly “made contributions” to the governor’s election campaign.

Simancas was arrested in Cartagena and will be taken to Bogota where his trial will take place.
