Former army commander, general Jesús Arias Cabrales surrendered to
authorities Friday after the Prosecution warranted his arrest for his
alleged responsibility in the disappearance of eleven civilians and a
guerrilla during the Palace of Justice drama in 1985.
Arias was responsible for the troops that escorted away the civilians. None of them ever returned alive.
The Palace of Justice drama began when guerrillas of M-19 occupied the
building and held teh complete Supreme Court hostage. The army attacked
the building, killing over a 100 people, including 11 Supreme Court
magistrates. Eleven civilians and one guerrilla disappeared.
