Five members of Colombia’s army died and at least 21 were injured
Thursday morning in two road accidents just south of the capital Bogota.
According to media reports, the accidents happened minutes after each other and only one mile from apart.
The first accident occurred on the Bogota – Villavicencio motorway. The truck the military personnel were traveling in flipped over, killing three of the passengers.
The second accident occurred one mile away, when another army truck, reportedly on its way to rescue the victims of the first accident, drove off a cliff.
The army says mechanical failure and extremely bad weather conditions were the cause of the accidents.
