Five soldiers arrested for alleged ‘falsos positivos’

Five Colombian army soldiers were arrested for the alleged murder of
three peasants in the Cesar department in May 2007. The victims were
later reported as killed ELN guerrillas.

The peasants were murdered near Valledupar. According to the soldiers’ reports they were ELN guerrillas killed in combat on May 14, 2007.

The soldiers will be charged with homicide.

Colombia’s security forces are under scrutiny for alleged massive human rights violations. The Prosecution reportedly is investigating more than a thousand members of the armed forces for killing civilians to report them as guerrillas killed in combat.
