Financial crisis is hitting Colombia: Government

The global financial crisis is affecting the Colombian economy,
President Álvaro Uribe acknowledged Tuesday, but added it’s important
to look forward.

“My invitation to the Colombians (…) in the midst of this crisis, these anxieties, these difficulties, we continue walking the path of confidence and investment,” Uribe said while speaking at the Autonomous University in Bogotá.

According to the Head of State, Colombia should continue its policy that seeks increased investors confidence and be a reliable destination for foreign investment, because this will bring prosperity after the current economic crisis.

“What needs to be done is think about the country in post-crisis. As soon as the crisis is beginning to be overcome, Colombia needs to be considered a first category investment destination,”Uribe said.

At the moment, Uribe expects a drop in investment, but “until now, despite the crisis, investment in Colombia continues.”
