Starting today and lasting through the weekend, los Paisas will have the chance to experience some of the country’s best rhythms and movements as Afro-Colombian musicians convene for “Festiafro” concert series running in Medellin from Oct. 24th to 26th.

The event kicks off today at the Pablo Tobon Uribe Theater with a performance from local artist “Tanya Maku” and “Sexteto Tabala” from San Basilio de Palenque. The entrance is free with a ticket obtainable in the box office at the event.

In the following days, (Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25th and 26th) starting at 6 p.m. in Parque de los Deseos, the festival will feature performances from 10 Afro-Colombian groups. The event in the park is also free and no ticket is required for entry.

Event organizers say the festival will show the “territorial resistance, collective creation and historical formations that characterize the artistic and cultural practices of the Afr-Colombian people.”

The weekend will also feature cultural and social public conversations surrounding issues facing Afro-Colombian communities.
