Alleged FARC rebels burned two buses in northern Colombia on Monday and caused a major thoroughfare between two municipalities to shut down, newspaper El Colombiano reported.
Five supposed rebels, armed and in civilian clothing, boarded two buses on the road connecting the San Andres de Cuerquia and Ituango municipalities in Colombia’s northwestern Antioquia department. They then forced the drivers to leave and set the two buses on fire, said a police source to El Colombiano.
There was no information regarding casualties.
Authorities claimed the perpetrators were from the 36th Front of the FARC, presumed to be active in large parts of northern Antioquia.
Traffic on the road to Ituango was restricted as of Tuesday while the army was trying to locate explosives left behind by the rebels, said army colonel Jose Gerardo Acevedo to Caracol Radio.
