Colombia’s largest rebel group FARC has killed 13 soldiers in the northeast of the country, the National Army said Saturday.
In a press release, the army said the soldiers were killed in an “act of terrorism” in Tame, a municipality in the northeastern Arauca department.
One soldier was injured in the violence and taken away from the combat for treatment.
The commander of the national army, Major General Juan Pablo Rodriguez, reportedly went to Arauca after the attack to coordinate military operations in the guerrilla stronghold.
According to weekly Semana, the attack on the armed forces was carried out by the FARC’s Alfonso Castellanos mobile unit.
The remote Arauca department is a guerrilla stronghold with a strong presence of both the FARC and the smaller ELN rebel group.
