FARC use extrajudicial killings of armed forces to justify its existence

The FARC will continue to fight the Colombian government and see the recent scandal of extrajudicial killings conducted by the army as a justification of its struggle, FARC commander ‘Timochenko’ said Thursday.

In a letter that appeared on the FARC-friendly website of Anncol ‘Timochenko’ said “the assassination of unarmed Colombians to later present them as guerrillas killed in combat is an old practice of the security forces of the State”.

According to the guerrilla leader, “the United States imposed the Democratic Security doctrine as guide line to ensure its hegemony in their backyard.”

“As long as there is this doctrine, there will be a guerrilla for a while,” the FARC commander concludes.

The Colombian armed forces came under scrutiny this year for proven and alleged human rights violations. Hundreds of members of the security forces are being investigated for the killing of innocent civilians. The FARC has equally been condemned for violating human rights for among other things their practice of taking civilians hostage and the use of anti-personnel mines.
