‘FARC’ injure police helicopter pilot in central Colombia

A police helicopter pilot has been injured when alleged FARC rebels opened fire at the helicopter giving air support to counter-narcotics operations in central Colombia, local media reported Sunday.

According to the reports, the helicopter came under fire between Vista Hermosa and Puerto Rico, two villages in the central Meta department.

Following the shooting, the helicopter was able to fly to the city of San Jose del Guaviare after which the injured co-pilot was sent to a hospital in the capital of Bogota.

The Meta department has long been a FARC stronghold and is one of the areas with a high number of coca plantations.
