The Spanish Foreign Minister said Tuesday that the FARC are experiencing “the worst period in their history” and praised Colombian President Alvaro Uribe for his efforts to confront illegal armed groups and establish democracy in Colombia.
Miguel Angel Moratinos commented on the situation in Colombia while speaking at the Iberian-American Senate Commission. He was there to lay out the priorities of the Spanish Presidnet in Latin America in 2010, Caracol Radio reported.
“The FARC are living in the worst period of their history, and that is good news for all democrats and those who reject violence as a political instrument,” Moratinos said.
He added that the FARC are in a phase of “clear deterioration”.
The Minister reaffirmed the Spanish government’s support for Uribe, saying thta “things are going well” in Colombia and that the Colombian President’s democratic security plan is “bearing fruit”.
