FARC attack in southwest Colombia

The FARC’s 6th front attacked a military base located in southwest Colombia, reported local media Wednesday.

Residents of El Palo, a town in the Cauca department, were surprised by a series of explosions after a number of homemade bombs called “tatucos” were detonated at the base.

No major injuries were reported after the initial attack or the subsequent clash between security forces and the guerrillas.

The region is a drug trafficking hotspot with heavy illegal armed group activity, an official told Radio Caracol.
