‘FARC’ ambush in southwest Colombia kills 1 soldier, wounds 3

One soldier died and three were wounded in an alleged FARC ambush in Colombia’s southwestern Cauca Department Saturday.

The attack occurred shortly before midnight, when soldiers on a routine patrol in the municipality of Caloto were targeted with explosives, reported Vanguardia Sunday.

The casualty was identified as 22-year-old Leonardo Pomar Silva who, alongside the three injured, was assigned to the Army’s 14th Mobile Brigade. The wounded were taken to Colombia’s third-largest city Cali for treatment.

General Jorge Humberto Jerez told Radio Caracol the area is a prominent drug trafficking corridor with heavy illegal armed group activity.
