Exhibition to celebrate Afro-Colombian Choco culture

A four part exhibition celebrating the culture of the Colombian Pacific department of Choco, is taking place in its capital Quibdo until May 21, according to the charitable foundation which organized the event.

To mark Afro-Colombian Day, which falls on the final day of the exhibition, May 21, the Charitable Foundation of Pereira organized Expochoco with four sections: tourism; cuisine and nutrition; art and culture, and products and services.

According to local news website Territorio Chocoano, the aim is to display the culture, cuisine, business and tourism of the department and strengthen links between local businesses.

The program of events included various conferences on subjects such as business and tourism. The event will culminate with a concert Saturday, featuring “artists known throughout Colombia.”

Choco, the forested department with Caribbean and Pacific coasts, has the highest concentration of Afro-Colombians, constituting 82% of its population.
