Ex-TV CEO rejects Conservative invitation to run for Bogota mayor

Paulo Laserna, the former Caracol Television CEO, has turned down the Conservative Party’s invitation to be their candidate for Bogota mayor in the October elections.

Laserna notified party president, Senator Jose Dario Salazar, of his decision in a letter, stating that after making a political evaluation of their proposal, he had chosen not to accept, reported Colombian media source El Nuevo Dia.

Despite this, Laserna stated that “I have feelings of deep gratitude for their kind offer and for the multiple gestures of deference of which I have been the object of on behalf of the group and similarly for the generosity that the conservative activists have expressed to me.”

Following the rejection of the invitation, which was extended to Laserna back in February, the Conservative Party is meeting to decide whether they will still attempt to find a party candidate for the October elections, or whether they will instead support the candidate of another party. The final decision will be made in July, said Salazar.
