Ex-policeman murders family

A former police official murders his ex-wife, his son, and two others, before committing suicide in the central Colombian Antioquia department.

According to a report in El Tiempo, the regional government secretary said that around 6AM, ex-officer Henry Morquera entered the house in which his former wife, Beatriz Elena Atehortua, and her new partner resided in La Pintada, in the southwest of the Antioquia department.

Upon entering, Morquera attacked and killed Atehortua, her partner, his nine-year-old son, and his ex-spouse’s mother.

When the police arrived, Morquera refused to surrender, fired shots into the air, and then committed suicide. According to authorities, he appeared to be intoxicated.

The former agent left the police force six years ago. According to an article in W Radio, Antioquia Police Chief Jose Acevedo stated that Morquera had no previous criminal record.
