Ex-governor arrested on murder charge

Colombian authorities captured an ex-governor accused of murder and alleged paramilitary ties after an arrest warrant was issued Wednesday, reported local media Thursday.

Former governor of the southern Caqueta department Germain Medina Trivino will be tried for allegedly contracting a paramilitary group to kill two teachers.

According to El Espectador, the April 2000 murders of Hector Manrique Peñuela and Jesus Maria Cuellar were carried out by a bloc tied to the AUC paramilitary organization because the pair were attempting to extort money from Medina.

The ex-governor is currently being held at the Prosecutor General’s headquarters in Bogota.
