An Envigado judge was shot dead after withdrawing money in downtown Medellin, Thursday.
Justice Jorge Alberto Restrepo was traveling in his car after he had withdrawn a large sum of money from a bank in the downtown neighborhood of ??San Diego. An assailant, who has yet to be identified, then opened fire on the judge, striking him in the chest and neck.
Witnesses said they saw the two suspects fleeing from the scene on a blue motorcycle.
Medics tried to revive the badly wounded Restrepo at Medellin’s General Hospital before he was pronounced dead.
According to Medellin’s police commander, General Yesid Vásquez, the assault occurred at about 4pm in the afternoon. The motive for the shooting has not been confirmed. However, given that Restrepo withdrew close to $18,000, it is possible the attack was a botched robbery.
Restrepo’s 28-year-old son, Juan David Morales, was also wounded in the attack and taken to hospital.
Police continue the search for the perpertrators of the attack.
