ELN kills 3 soldiers in eastern Colombia attack

Three soldiers have been killed by members of guerrilla group ELN, the Colombian army announced Friday.

According to the army, a roadside bomb was detonated at the time the soldiers’ armored vehicle, on patrol in the region, passed.

The army blames the ELN, the country’s second largest leftist rebel group, for the attack.

The army denounced the ELN for the “use of non-conventional weapons” and the “violation of international humanitarian law.”

The Arauca department where the attack took place borders Venezuela and has a high presence of guerrillas of both the ELN and the bigger FARC.
