Authorities investigate twelve possible swine flu cases in Colombia

Colombian health authorities are investigating twelve cases of people
who possibly are infected with the swine flu that killed 103 people in
Mexico and infected around a dozen in the United States.

According to Social Welfare Minister Diego Palacio, ten of the cases presented themselves in Bogotá and another two on Colombia’s coast.

The Minister told Caracol Radio that the government is on high alert and will develop an emergency plan in the incident that the virus may have spread to Colombia.

Bogota’s Health Secretary asked all citizens who have traveled to Mexico and the U.S. and show signs of a flu to report to the authorities, so they can be examined.

Colombia Saturday imposed extra security measures on Bogota’s airport El Dorado and the borders to prevent the virus entering the country.
