El Salvador’s ambassador to Colombia accused of sexual harassment

A Colombian former employee of the El Salvadorian Embassy in Bogota has accused the ambassador of sexual harassment.

Jaqueline Tauta told W Radio on Thursday that since the arrival of El Salvadorian Ambassador Ernesto Arrieta Peralta to Colombia on August 28, 2009, she noticed that her conversations and emails with him became increasingly inappropriate and sexual in tone.

According to Tauta, the situation came to such a point that on September 22, 2009, after a conversation with the ambassador, she told him that she “could not continue working there because it was too difficult” to put up with the inappropriate “looks, and the words that he was saying.”

She added that after this conversation, the government of El Salvador sent her a notice stating that her contract with the government would not be renewed for 2010.
