‘El Loco’ Barrera to negotiate with US: Barrera’s attorney

“El Loco” Barrera will negotiate with U.S. authorities, said the captured drug lord’s lawyer on Monday.

Barrera will allegedly provide “invaluable information” to both Colombian and U.S. authorities, said the attorney of the infamous drug trafficker, Jony Martinez Alvarez, in an interview with Caracol Radio.

Alvarez claimed that negotiations with U.S. authorities had begun previous to Barrera’s recent arrest and he is currently awaiting further instructions from his client who is being held in Venezuela.

The lawyer also expressed his hopes for the swift extradition of El Loco from Venezuela to Colombia, and has asked prison authorities to provide sufficient protection for Barrera, “whose life would be endangered by the information he supposedly knows,” and is claiming to share with authorities.

The “last of the great capos” was captured last Tuesday in a phone booth while trying to place a call. He is currently waiting to be moved to Colombia, where according to La W Radio he will wait no longer than two weeks before being extradited to the U.S. to face charges of drug trafficking and money laundering in three different U.S. courts.
