‘El Aleman’ accuses 23 politicians of paramilitary ties

Demobilized paramilitary warlord and brother of ‘Don Mario, Freddy ‘El
Aleman’ Rendon gave the Colombian Supreme Court a list of 23
politicians he claims had ties to paramilitary organization AUC.

On the list appear the names of the current vice-President of the Senate, Oscar Suarez and former chairman of the Conservative Party, Julio Manzur.

Radio Station La FM, that received a copy of the warlord’s testimony, reports there was a plan of the Elmer Cardenas Bloc of the AUC to create political projects in the departments of Chocó, Antioquia and Córdoba to build a bridge between the outlawed paramilitaries andlocal, departmental and national politics.

Two of the congressmen on the paramilitary’s list are members of the opposition Liberal Party, the rest all make part of the governing coalition parties. Some of the politicians were already investigated.
