An Egyptian woman passed away mid-flight Sunday on her way to Colombia’s El Dorado International Airport, according to Colombian media.

The woman, identified as 54-year-old Abdel Nope, suffered a heart attack during a flight from Germany to Bogota.

She was reportedly given first aid by medical professionals on board, but passengers and crew were unable to revive her, citing the high altitude as one possible factor in her death.

The commander of the Bogota’s airport police told RCN radio that, “This is the first time we confront an unfortunate event such as this. The truth is it took us by surprise. She never informed us she had heart complications.”

No family or friends were present at the airport to receive the deceased’s body, and the Colombian government is reportedly in the process of having it transferred to Germany.
