EEB wins contract for power grid in Guatemala

Colombia’s state-owned energy firm Empresa de Energia de Bogota SA (EEB) won a contract to build and operate an electricity transmission grid of about 850 kilometers in Guatemala, the company said Friday in a statement.

EEB, which bid in partnership with Mexican construction firm Edemtec, beat Colombian transmission grid operator Interconexion Electrica SA and Guatemalan firm ETCEE.

The result of the auction held on Friday will be confirmed on December 16, EEB said.

The Colombian firm didn’t specify the investment required.

The Bogota city council controls 81.5% of EEB, while Ecopetrol SA owns a 7.3% stake and financial holding Corporacion Financiera Colombiana SA has 3.8%. The remainder is in the hands of the company’s current and former workers and other state-owned companies. (Dow Jones)
