Ecuador’s ambassador takes office in Colombia

Ecuador’s new ambassador to Colombia Raul Vallejo took office in Bogota on Wednesday, reports Caracol Radio.

Vallejo was appointed to the post in December 2010 and is the Ecuador’s first ambassador to Colombia since relations between the neighboring Andean nations broke down nearly two years ago when Colombia attacked a FARC camp on Ecuadorean territory. Ecuador considered the attack an infringement on their sovereignty.

The neighboring nations restored diplomatic ties in November 2010 and in early December, Colombia appointed Fernando Arboleda Ripoll to the embassy in Ecuador.
