Ecuador asks Interpol to arrest Santos

Ecuador Friday asked Interpol to issue a warrant for the arrest of
former Colombian Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos. Colombian
President Alvaro Uribe immediately extended Santos’ diplomatic passport
to afford him diplomatic immunity.

The same Ecuadorean judge who ordered Santos’ arrest for his alleged responsibility for the death of an Ecuadorean
citizen in the bombing of a FARC camp on
Ecuadorean territory, petitioned for his arrest to Interpol.

Interpol must now evaluate the petition and decide if it will be accepted or rejected.

Ecuadorean authorities expect the petition to be accepted, according to El Espectador. If it is, Santos name will be included on Interpol’s ‘Red Notice‘ list.

Uribe reiterated his statement that he will not allow permit anyone to “touch” Santos.

He said that Santos’ diplomatic passport will be extended and that with the passport he can counteract an arrest warrant.
