Captured Peruvian drug lord awaits extradition

Police captured a drug trafficker Monday in Medellin, Colombia who is wanted for extradition to Peru, reports Caracol Radio.

Anibal Zapata Avalos was captured Monday in Medellin where he had been reportedly living for two years after allegedly escaping from prison in Peru in 2009.

The drug trafficker, a subject of an Interpol Red Notice, an international call for information on an individual, had served time in Peru after Lima police reportedly captured him with 128 kilos of cocaine with a street value of $4.5 million.

Colombia’s Prosecutor General’s Office will be in charge of the criminal while Interpol initiates extradition proceedings.
