Gloria Valencia’s husband turns to fans for support

Alvaro Castaño, husband of the late “First Lady” of TV Gloria Valencia de Castaño, thanked Colombian supporters, and asked them not to abandon him in this difficult moment.

“There is such tenderness in the people, such caring and curiosity that penetrated the life of doña Gloria (…) this has been a great companion that these enchanting people have given me, that I know they will continue giving me,” said Castaño in an interview with W Radio.

Castaño, who co-founded television station HCJK with his wife, said that his heart is “broken” and “wounded” with the death of doña Gloria, but that the “pain should have a very special honor” attached to it.

President Juan Manuel Santos expressed sorrow over the television presenter’s death as well, in a Twitter post Friday morning, writing, “I profoundly lament the death of Gloria Valencia. We knew her, admired her, and loved her during her whole life.”

The 83-year-old Ibague native died in her Bogota home Friday morning, after suffering various health problems. She was well-known as both a journalist and a television host for shows such as “Naturalia.”
