Young woman killed and 8 wounded in northwest Colombia minefield

A young woman was killed and eight more civilians on Wednesday were wounded by landmines allegedly planted by FARC guerrillas in the northwestern department of Antioquia.

Santiago Londoño, the government secretary of Antioquia, said the group stepped into the minefield near a school in the Briceño municipality located in the northern part of the department.

The secretary attributed the deaths to the 36th Front of the FARC.

“Because of the mine fields which have been installed and keep being installed by guerrillas of the FARC’s 36th Front in the north of Antioquia, a young person lost her life and eight young people were wounded in the Briceño municipality,” said Londoño.
