Colombian television network Caracol has purchased the rights to broadcast an announced rap battle between rookies of Colombia’s police and underage members of guerrilla group FARC.
The rap battle is part of a preliminary peace process between the Colombian government and the rebel group and meant to “bring the warring parties together through music,” the television network said in a press release.
The National Police will be represented by rookies of the Choco police department who became an unsuspected internet hit and national laughing stock with a song that became known as “La La Policia Nacionaaaal.”
The FARC will be represented by the anonymous rappers featured in the guerrillas’ official announcement to take part in peace negotiations with the national government. Their song, “Vamos pa’la Habana” failed to get as many hits on YouTube, but according to experts within the Colombian hip hop scene “stinks as bad as that of the police.”
Caracol TV has been in a tough spot losing the battle over prime-time ratings to its only competitor RCN whose “Protagonistas de Nuestra Tele” contracted mentally challenged wanna-be socialites to do nothing for an indefinite amount of time while sharing a house.
