DISINFORMATION: Bogota buys diesel generators to charge electric taxis

Bogota’s transport secretary has bought 25 diesel generators to charge electricity-run taxis it plans to have on the streets in December.

According to an internal memo, the generators will be distributed over strategic charging points throughout the city “so the drivers of the new taxis can recharge their vehicles anytime, anywhere.”

The Bogota city government fears that taxis could run out of charge while stuck in one of the city’s many traffic jams and hopes the strategically positioned charging stations will avoid dead taxis worsening the already hell-like situation on the Bogota streets.

“To optimize the benefit for the environment, all generators must be fueled with ‘green diesel’,” the memo instructed transit employees.

Twelve of the the diesel generators will be placed on locations along the Carrera Septima, the city’s busiest street. The remaining generators will be located on the Avenida El Dorado, Avenida Boyaca and the innercity highway.
