Jorge Osorio confirms he resigns as president of soccer club Deportivo Independiente de Medellin (DIM).
The troubled soccer club published a press release stating that “conversations with important leaders began last week. [They] presented a proposal for a change in the direction of the institution, which was approved by major shareholders and would mean an administrative change.”
“On his part, the president of [DIM], Dr. Jorge Osorio, expressed his wish to step aside, so that the conversations arrive at a happy ending for the good of the institution.”
Osorio explained that he signed his letter of resignation because “there’s a group of serious people who are interested in managing the club and since I believe in them, I signed my letter of departure, because I am also a human being, and I have a family that doesn’t sleep because of so many threats against me and my daughter.”
“Don’t get yourself killed for that team, give it to them,” his mother had told him in a phone call.
Supporters of the club had called for Osorio’s resignation after disappointing performances in Colombia’s top league.
