Deputy leader of emerging criminal gang sentenced to 5 yrs in central Colombia

The second leader of emerging criminal organization “Cordillera” has been sentenced to five years and four months imprisonment in Manizales, in the central Colombian department of Caldas, Radio Santa Fe reported Thursday.

John Jairo Vasco Lopez, alias “Nico,” was condemned and sentenced for micro-trafficking in Pereira, the capital of the Risaralda department, as well as nearby Dosquebradas.

Nico’s associates, Edwer Bedoya López, alias “Fabiola,” and John Fredy Ramírez Sánchez, alias “Piña,” were also convicted for the same crimes.

Nico was captured in Ecuador on April 22, while his accomplices were re-arrested this Wednesday, after having being released last year when their terms expired.

Eight others from the same criminal organization have been charged with the same crime and will stand trial.
