Representative Roy Barreras said that Democratic Security and Uribe’s re-election depend on each other, they are “the same referendum”. If Uribe will not be re-elected, the Democratic Security policy in this form would end.

Rodrigo Rivera called on Congress to make a decision on the referendum and not to make a Plan B. “We need to politically maintain Democratic Security,” he said.

Uribe still did not give any comment on his possible re-election. “I prefer the silence which does not generate any rumors,” the President said.

The final vote on the referendum is postponed after the end of parliamentary recess on July 20. The Supreme Court is investigating a possibly illegal approval of the referendum in Congress.
