Death toll Cali car bomb rises

At least two people died and more than thirty were injured in the car bomb attack Sunday on a Cali police station.

According to the website of newspaper El Tiempo, the attack killed two and wounded 39. Newspaper El Espectador spoke of three dead — one of them the alleged terrorist — and at least thirty wounded. Reports by local newspaper El País speak of 39 wounded, but say nothing about deaths.

Cali authorities said Monday they were able to dismantle a second bomb only one block away from the Sunday attack.

Colombian President Álvaro Uribe Sunday blamed the FARC for the attack, which isn’t supported by local authorities. They say it is unknown who planned the terrorist attack.

Valle governor Juan Carlos Abadía organized a special security council meeting, attended by National Police chief Oscar Naranjo. The latter promised a reward of up to 100 million pesos (nearly US$50 thousand) for information about those responsible for the attack.
