Death threats against human rights defenders

An unidentified group threatened to kill employees of the United
Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the leaders of a
regional peace program in Magdalena Medio, North Central Colombia.

The Ombudsman said that the human rights defenders received a funeral card threatening the organization in general and especially the female workers, El Espectador reported Thursday.

The UNHCR and the Development and Peace Program of Magdalena Medio (PDPMM), an initiative of the local Jesuit community, work in the same building and close together.

Human rights defenders of this area receive regularly threats, Marco Antonio Garcia, owner of the state entity said. He asked the authorities to investigate this “intimidating behavior” and to take urgent security measures to ensure the safety of the human rights workers.
