Police break cyber theft ring

The judicial police DIJIN announced Sunday that they captured seven suspects of a suspected cyber theft ring which allegedly stole over $284,000 (COP 530 million) from the government, hospitals, schools and private citizens.

The accused are charged with conspiracy, abuse of systems access, aggravated theft and forgery of private documents for allegedly using access to system information to steal from unemployment and pension funds, reports Radio Santa Fe.

According to Santa Fe, from 2009 to 2010 the Criminal Investigation Department received repeated complaints from financial system users and customers who were victims of fraudulent money transfers.
