Court to hear alleged ELN-politicians

Colombia’s Supreme Court ordered the investigation of possible
links between two Congressmen and the country’s second largest rebel
group ELN.

A demobilized ELN guerrilla had testified the two Representatives from Chocó made a pact with the guerrillas to be elected into Congress. The ELN would have used its influence in the regions where they were present to force the population to vote for the politicians.

The court now wants to see a copy of the testimony and hear the accused coalition politicians, one of Partido de la U, the other of Cambio Radical.

Torres denies having anything to do with the ELN. According to the Representative he and his family have been threatened by the guerrillas.
