Court fast tracks investigation into notary scandal

The Supreme Court of Justice will expediate preliminary investigations into allegations the Presidency issued notaries to Congressmen who voted in favor of Colombian President
Alvaro Uribe’s 2006 re-election.

President of the Supreme Court Augusto Ibañez told Caracol Radio that the investigation seeks to validate bribery claims by the former Superintendent of Notary and Registry Manuel Cuello Baute.

Ibañez said the court must determine if the accused Congressmen committed crimes before a formal investigation is launched.
