Cordoba meets US Congressmen

Colombian opposition senator Piedad Cordoba met with U.S. Democratic
Congressmen Jim McGovern and Bill Delahunt Thursday to discuss the
deadlocked liberation of a Colombian soldier.

Cordoba was in charge of mediating the liberation until the Colombian government dismissed her and allowed only the Red Cross to mediate with the FARC. The guerrillas in turn said they would only release soldier Pablo Emilio Moncayo under the supervision of Cordoba.

Cordoba now is hoping for support of the U.S. Congressmen to get the release operation back on track.

“What we talked about bascially is of the liberations. We talked about how we see things and how we could move forward with the liberation of soldier Moncayo,” Cordoba told newspaper El Espectador.
