Córdoba correspondence with FARC receives international support

Dozens of international prominent intellectuals, scholars
and journalists from both the Americas and Europe sent a letter to opposition senator Piedad Córdoba and
Colombia’s largest guerrilla group FARC to show their support for the correspondence between the
guerrillas and the group of 150 Colombian intellectuals about peace.

The letter, among others signed by Argentinian Nobel Peace Prize winner Adolfo Pérez Esquivel, calls on the Colombia’s largest rebel group and the ‘Colombians for Peace’ group to continue their efforts to find a political solution to Colombia’s violent conflict.

The writers want the National Liberation Army (ELN), Colombia’s second largest left wing rebel group, to join the dialogue.

‘Colombians for Peace’ initiated a correspondence with the FARC in September. The FARC reacted positively to the initiative and recently announced the release of six hostages as a “sign of will”.

The FARC has been pushed onto the defensive over the past few years because of the U.S. backed military offense by Colombia’s Armed Forces.
