According to the information obtained by Caracol Radio, Senator Piedad Córdoba, who earlier helped Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez negotiate the release of several hostages held by the FARC, maintained a friendly relation with the Colombian rebels and received money from the Venezuelan government to perform social work in her department.Raúl Reyes also mentioned Piedad Córdoba – codename Teodora de Bolivar – as one of twelve people who could form a transitional government after the FARC seize power in Colombia.Several member of the Uribe administration had already warned about the content of Raúl Reyes computer. According to Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos, himself accused of previous involvement with paramilitary groups, farcopolitics could become a bigger scandal than the parapolitics, which is currently causing severe damage to the Uribe administration and the pro-Uribe coalition in Colombian Congress. The Colombian Supreme Court asked the government to hand over the information, to establish if there are reasons for an official investigation into the alleged ties between the guerrillas, Senator Córdoba and others. The Colombian government say they are waiting on Interpol to support the findings implicating Córdoba. After that they will hand over the information to the country’s Prosecution.According to Córdoba the government is setting up a smokescreen to divert attention from the current parapolitics scandal: “It’s all about the parapolitics. They are certainly not going to silence me about the political crisis. All I did I did publicly.”
