Colombia’s urban unemployment down

Unemployment in Colombia’s major cities dropped to 12.3% last month, down from 13.5% in March 2009, according to figures released by the national statistics department (DANE) on Friday.

The figures refer to the percentage of people without jobs in Colombia’s thirteen major cities, which economic advisors use as an indicator of the country’s employment as a whole.

The total national unemployment rate, including rural areas, stood at 11.8% in March 2010, an improvement on the 12% recorded a year earlier.
