Colombia’s unemployment down 7.4% on year

Colombia registered a drop in the rate of unemployment of 7.4% from 2.668 million in April 2010 to 2.47 million in April 2011, according to the monthly employment report from the national statistics agency, DANE

While the number of unemployed fell by 7.4%, the employed population increased by 19,600 people, a percentage increase of 2.2% from April 2010 to last month. This figure now stands at 19.585 million.

However the number of economically inactive Colombians rose by 2.5% from 12.768 million in April 2010 to 13.083 million in April 2011. In the 13 metropolitan areas of the country, the employment rate rose by 4.1%.
