Colombia’s police chief elected head of continental police body

The head of Colombia’s national police, General Oscar Naranjo, has been elected director of the American Police Community (AMERIPOL), local media reported Monday.

The election of Naranjo as the president of the continental police organization occurred as part of the 41st assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), during a reunion of national police chiefs on El Salvador’s Pacific coast.

“The directors unanimously elected as the new president of the continental organization the director of Colombia’s national police, who is also one of the organization’s founders,” said a communique from the Salvadorean police.

Naranjo has taken the place of Brazilian police chief Leandro Coimbra.
