Colombia’s Central Worker’s Union (CUT) announced on Friday its support of the ongoing student protests taking place throughout the country.
The protests, sparked by a controversial government reform on education – the “Law 30” – have spread to all of Colombia’s main cities.
CUT President Tarcisio Mora declared that all of the 32 CUT’s subsidiary companies were to join the movement instigated by the students, and their next demonstration planned on November 10th.
“We give all our support to the student movement, because the youth has given a clear example of a civic protest and of a democratic proposal”, Mora said.
In Thursday’s student protests, tens of thousands of students mobilized in several of Colombia’s cities. The demontration in Bogota led to an almost entire shut-down of traffic.
